Join our group of volunteers on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. We will eat with the residents and people from the community and provide/serve dessert for the group of about 100-120 people. A carpool leaves the church parking lot at 6:15 p.m.

There are two more town hall meetings scheduled to discuss the MCCI prescription on Thursday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel and Sunday December 8th at 12:15 p.m. Another town hall will take place at Twin Towers with the time and date to be announced at a later date. The Church Conference vote is December 15th at 10:30 a.m. for members to vote on the prescription on the prescriptions.
Join us on Thursday, December 5th at 10:00 a.m. for brunch and a musical presentation “When Love Was Born” in Epworth Hall. All UMW members and friends are invited. Brunch will cost $5.00. We will also be holding a Pledge Service for our 2020 pledges as well as installing the newly elected Officers for 2020. Your presence is desired.

The work in the gymnasium is on-going, but, as you’ve probably seen, the plastic and plywood have been removed and we are able to use the gym again even though there’s more to be done. Here’s an update.
The ceiling work has been completed. The new materials sprayed to cover all of the exposed ceiling/roof structure provide our gym with improved thermal and acoustical (noise reduction) properties.
New L.E.D. lighting fixtures have been installed which give us “instant-on” lighting, better and brighter lighting coverage and also include dimming capability. Also, defective wiring issues have been corrected and the breaker panel in the gym brought up to code. This will give us some flexibility as we grow in the future,
6 new sound-system speakers will be installed within the next week or 2. We are waiting on the delivery of the mounting hardware which is expected by Tuesday (11/26/19).
HVAC work continues. The old air exchange hardware has been removed and new heating units beingfabricated by Trane Corporation are due to ship in the next 10-12 days. Installation will begin upon arrival. The new air conditioners are pretty much ready to be placed, but are waiting for final determination of the location of roof mounted equipment. This is to ensure the AC equipment location does not impact/interfere with a potential new kitchen design (see next item).
The church and UMC Food are exploring the feasibility of updating and creating a more efficient configuration for the kitchen next to the gym. A meeting has been held with a kitchen architect who has worked with UMC Food on other similar projects. Currently we are waiting for completion of drawings for our review.
The not-so-good news:
2 weeks ago, the water being used in the spraying of the new ceiling material did not get completely shut off at the end of the work day and the issue was not discovered until the next morning. This resulted in a significant amount of water accumulating on the gym floor and leaking down into some areas on the level below the gym. Water damage remediation immediately commenced upon discovery of the issue and the drying out continues today. The lower level damage is primarily in the parlor kitchen, a hall closet and some in Rev. Lee’s office. The gym floor has obviously been affected, but determination of what will be needed to get back to pre-flooding condition can not be done until the drying out process is completed. Work continues to try and speed up this process as much as possible. During this time, all of the affected areas are still useable with, perhaps, some small limitations in the gym. Unfortunately, once the gym floor remedies start, the gym will again be off limits for probably a minimum of 2-3 weeks. Due to the many upcoming activities scheduled in the gym, we do not anticipate this work starting until sometime in the first quarter of 2020.
